00:00 – Smooth Bipedal (PreDAC Animation Foundations)
This was my most recent animation, a walk cycle turned moonwalk cycle. I had fun using reference footage from actual MJ concerts to replicate the legendary dance move, and Smooth Criminal fits over it perfectly. I watch this clip on repeat in my spare time, and the more it loops to the music cutting in, the funnier it gets. I remember walk cycles being incredibly hard for me at first, so this clip is a definitive sign of my growth as an artist.

00:11 – The Adventures of Boxee (PreDAC Animation Foundations)
The Boxee assignment for my Animation Foundation class resulted in my favorite piece of animation I’ve ever made. A simple story about a purple box with an eyeball trying to get past a wall. My strongest area in animation is character animation, and it really shines through in this short. I had an absolute blast rigging and utilizing facial expressions, and I can’t help but crack a smile each time I see it.

00:21 – Duel of Mates (LYNX Camp 2019)
This was one of my first ‘professional’ animations. Previously, I had done smaller, low quality works, but after taking the 2D Animation LYNX Camp in 2019, I became proficient enough with the software to make some advanced animations. This is a 10-second lightsaber fight. I’m a huge Star Wars nerd, and that shines through in this work, as I carefully choreographed the moves to fit the fighting styles of these two warriors. The patient and collected Jedi cleverly anticipates and counters the movements of the brash and headstrong Sith. The Sith also wields his blade one-handed, echoing Darth Vader, but the Jedi proves he doesn’t quite have the chops yet. But with one hand gone, he’s certainly one step closer to being more machine than man!

00:31 – He Believes He Can Fly (PreDAC 3D Foundations)
This was my term-long modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering assignment for 3D Foundations. A 3D Animated interpretation of one of Matt Dixon’s ‘Lonely Robots’ illustrations. This assignment brought everything into one scene, including some minor animation. In a way, the title and attitude of this robot align with my own desire to do animation. This work is solid proof that I, too, believe I can fly.

00:39 – Undertale Room S1 Animated (Personal Work)
It’s been a long-time ambition of mine to adapt a novel or video game into an animated movie. So many studios nowadays strive to ride the back of nostalgia to make profit, so I wanted to do right by fans and create an adaptation with passion and thought put into it. This clip is a short excerpt from a storyboard made for a potential animated series of Undertale by Toby Fox. This game has a special place in my heart and this was a proof of concept to myself that I could make this happen.

00:49 – A Ball Attempting to Bounce Upwards (PreDAC Animation Foundations)
Another assignment from Animation Foundations that was also a lot of fun for me. I’m a character artist, and pumping an expressionless grey ball full of character was a blast. Though this assignment was mainly just to get used to how the graph editor worked, I couldn’t help going the extra mile.

00:58 – Complexing Jexing Hexing (LYNX Camp 2019)
This was a short I made for the Motion Graphics LYNX Camp in 2019. I mainly poured all my time into trying to learn 3D with Maya, which at the time I was struggling with, so this was a fun, 2D animation that kept in my element. It’s a wizard with a magic wand casting spells that he can’t handle, and it was a way for me to play with some basic effects and character charm. And I’m in love with how a lot of these effects look, especially the fire, which I used to struggle getting right in the past.
