BASECAMP Update – May 16th, 2021

Hi Everyone!

My name is Megan and I am the Children’s Ministry Director at Mountainview Church. I have a special announcement that I’d like to share with you!

We are going to start moving in the direction of getting BASECAMP fully operational! As we roll this out, we are going to start off with having the 9:30 service as a BASECAMP service, and then the 11:00 am will be a parent-led space.

When will this start?

Great question! We are planning to start this the first weekend in July! (Wahoo!!!) There’s one thing I want to be sure to talk about as we dive into this.

Having a family, I know there can be a feeling of wanting Sunday mornings to be a time of childcare for your children. I totally understand…it’s been a long week and you want to drop the kids off and have some time upstairs. However, children’s ministry is so much more than a childcare program on Sunday mornings.

I believe children’s ministry and family discipleship need to go hand in hand. In fact, I believe family discipleship is the most important thing in raising Christ-centred children.

Is the term “family discipleship” unfamiliar?

That’s okay! True family discipleship is taking advantage of the time and moments you have with your children to think about, talk about, and live out the Gospel.

Here at Mountainview Church, our children’s ministry wants to provide an opportunity for your children to learn about Jesus while they are in the building, but we also want to help provide family discipleship opportunities inside and outside of the building.

What does this mean as we re-open BASECAMP?

For starters, I would like to see the parents…of kids…who are in BASECAMP to be a part of BASECAMP.

As we work together to capitalize on family discipleship time and moments I feel it’s so important, that parents know what’s going on downstairs, to be a part of it, involved in it, and believe it or not, learning from it.

I am asking that each parent serve downstairs once a month. In doing so, this will start to create more family discipleship moments, which are instrumental in growing a child’s faith. And of course, if you do not have a child in BASECAMP but would still like to serve in helping teach children about Jesus, then please be sure to join the children’s ministry team!

In preparation for re-opening BASECAMP…

There are few clerical items to take care of. The biggest item is our Plan to Protect policy. We view the children’s safety with the highest regard. So we have a program in place to help educate and train anyone who is involved with children.

Now you may have attended a workshop in the past, but as you can imagine, things have changed! So we are using this time, as a fresh start. We will be requiring everyone to go through a new Plan to Protect workshop before getting involved.

Thankfully, Nicole Hoehn has wonderfully volunteered and is willing and able to help train us all, myself included! We will have 2 workshops before the BASECAMP relaunch in July.

The first one will be Thursday, May 27th from 6-9 pm.

The second one will be Tuesday, June 22nd from 6-9 pm.

Both workshops will be held in the church building. To register please email me at megan@mountainviewwhitehorse.ca.

I hope you feel the same way I do; that this is a VERY exciting time here at Mountainview Church! If you have any questions, please email me and I’d love to talk!

Miss Megan,
Children’s Ministry Director
