For Beginners: Some inexpensive paint options

The Behr sample jars are

7 ounces or $0.57 an ounce

I paid $3.98 each at Home Depot. The department assistants will mix colors in sample jars for you. I was careful to ask when they were not busy & resisted asking fir more than 5 colors ☺️

First, I want to thank dozens of YouTube Fluid Artists for sharing your techniques.

I especially want to thank Sara Taylor & DwightPour.

⭐️⭐️Here are links to their channels & some of my favorite Fluid Art recipes paint Mixing tips.⭐️⭐️

And Elyse Fournier whose creativity & insights have drawn me back to the studio. Elyse is an amazingly well-trained artist with an amazing imagination.

I love this lesson:

In this video I’m playing/experimenting with Behr house paint.

I play with viscosity & additional ingredients like Golden GAC 800, Liquitex Pouring medium, 70/30 % Elmer’s Glue medium, distilled water etc. but not the kitchen sink .

Like so many these days, especially Senior Citizens like me, Paints with “wear a respirator “only use in well- ventilated areas” are a no go. And my best friend, Jax is also old and diagnosed with cancer, so double not using those chemicals.

So I have switched to a Zero VOC Behr Interior Satin Enamel “Ultra Pure White” 7050

And

Glidden Samples GLU6213N Satin “Ultra Deep Base”. (Base 3) also Zero VOC $4.98 for 7 ounces.

It dawned on me, after recently taking The Shelee Bloom & Nancy Wood Fluid Art Tutorials (worth every Penny btw), that I had done some experiments last year that basically missed a couple of ingredients:

Amsterdam acrylics & titches of JoSonja water-based polyurethane which is milder than most.

So I added both to my year-old Behr paint and tried thicker versions in this experiment.

Hoping to help Newbies save some $$ practicing with tinted sample bases of house paint until achieving proper viscosity, etc.

Next up will be a thinner version of same paints.

Lots of experiments upcoming. Have a lot of paint to share with you.
