The song I used in my video is Wherever I Go by Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus). I do not own rights to the song. All credit goes to the makers of the show Hannah Montana and the songwriters Adam Watts and Andy Dodd. I chose this song because I grew up watching Hannah Montana and listening to her songs. In my video, I took inspiration from the music video, Photograph, by Ed Sheeran but I added a twist to it. A walk through photo album of my life instead of a mashup of home videos. Currently, my family and I are in the process of moving from Kansas to Chicago so I do not have access to home videos because they are all packed up. However, I have tons of photos of me growing up and I thought the idea of a photo album seemed interesting. I was born in Chicago in 2002 and when i was 9 years old, my family and I moved to Kansas because my dad got a job opportunity. With everything being online now because of the global pandemic, my dad’s job is all virtual which gave my parents the idea of moving back to Chicago. Chicago is a very special city for us because it is where my parents met, fell in love, and where my sister and I were born. This is a very sentimental time for my family and I. Therefore, I think the song “Wherever I Go” fits perfectly with what is going on in my life. In the show, Hannah Montana, the song takes place in the last episode where Miley’s life is changing too. She revealed to the world that she was Hannah Montana all this time while at the same time she is graduating high school. She is getting all these opportunities, one being a movie that films in Paris, however, she still wants to live a normal life and go to college with her best friend. Although I do not have any movie opportunities, I really relate to this. I don’t remember living in Chicago like the rest of my family does. This is because I was so young when we lived there. I think of Kansas as my home and where I grew up and where all my friends live or go to school. I don’t want to move away from them but I also really love the city of Chicago as well. I am excited to start a life up there but I’m gonna miss living so close to the University of Kansas and my friends. I will still be attending the University of Kansas but I won’t have the privilege of being so close to home and I won’t be able to go home whenever I want anymore. I think summer in Chicago will be really fun, especially because I will be closer to my non immediate family now. I haven’t seen them in forever so I’m excited to see them again. I really hope I can visit Kansas or have my friends visit me over the summer too. After creating this video and reflecting on my life through photos of my childhood, making this video made me very sentimental. That being said, this video and song means a lot to me and I can’t wait to show it to my parents as it relates to them as well. I hope they will enjoy it as much as I did.
