The Hobbit Edit – Abandoned Concepts 1

The above video is but a few abandon concepts from The Hobbit Fan Edit. The first of which was an idea between me and JXEditor, who I give full credit for this effect and explanation video. This concept uses a software called Ebaynth and faceapp in order to apply an older or younger filter over the subject’s face and then running this through a synth across a series of still images. The results however are imperfect and cannot be used for a full edit at this stage. The effect only works when a subject is in full profile and therefore doesn’t work from any side profile shots or other.

The other of which is a colour corrected Beorn at the end of the battle of the five armies where he is now shown with black fur. The same synth effect was attempted with this however due to the constant movement and busyness of the shots, the synth proves unusable and would therefore have to be colour corrected frame by frame for the entire duration of the footage which at this stage is just undoable on a one-man basis.

The final shot is an idea I was playing with for a future Lord of the Rings fan edit where face app was used to gender flip Arwen to see what the character would look like as a male so that a potential Glorfindel edit could be made. This is just a rough test and I would need someone way more skilled at photoshop to colour correct the hair to blonde in an infinitely more convincing manner. I don’t think the effect would work but who knows in the future when face app and other such software is develop…
